Athletic

Council

Athletic Council is a fun, inclusive group that works to promote athletics and healthy living amongst the STL community. We host a number of school wide events, such as the basketball buy-in, health awareness week, and the athletic banquet. Athletic council members plan and attend these events in order to ensure they run smoothly and are enjoyable for our student body. In addition to our well-known events, athletic council members also play an active role in organizing sports teams. Each member is assigned a team at the beginning of each season, and it is their task to ensure the team is equipped with uniforms, first aid supplies, and has paid all their fees. At the end of each season, we also vote on who will become the newest athlete of the season. If you are passionate about sports and athletics, are interested in promoting a healthy active lifestyle, and want to make a difference in the STL community, then athletic council is right for you!

Diversity & Equity

Council

As Diversity & Equity Council, we aim to start the discussion on serious topics such as cultural, mental, and racial diversity to create a more open hearted STL community whilst building a family within the council itself. We are the council that opens up their arms to all with events such as Mental Health Awareness Week, Where You At, and Disability Awareness Day. We also host events out of this world (pun intended ;) ) such as Cultural Week and Salsa Night that celebrate Canada’s proud multicultural community offering students to try different traditional foods, dances, and music! As a council we rejoice in the differences that make our identities, and strive to teach each other acceptance through understanding to stomp out degrading stigmas. If you want to make a change, D&E is the family for you!

Environmental

Council

A council full of individuals are who are passionate about the environment, From Recycling awareness to Rainforest cafe, we perform all with enthusiasm and passion to make the world a better place. We are the council who brought the gorgeous red Tesla and planted over 30 trees, but more so through these many initiatives, we allow the school community the opportunity to raise awareness of the many environmental issues that our beautiful planet faces and within that promote change!

Intramural

Council

Intramural Council dedicates it's time to ensure that all members of the student body are able to participate in school events by hosting various activities, competitions, games, and excursions for the students to take part in. Common events include: Floor Hockey Drop-In, Soccer Drop-In, Volleyball Buy-In, TFC Night, and many more. All of these events help to provide opportunities for students to feel welcome in the school by socializing with other members of the student body in a fun and non-competitive environment. Intramural Council organizes these events from the planning stage to the final product, and provides a learning experience for council members to develop their interpersonal skills, creativity, and abilities to work in team settings. Nonetheless, Intramural Council takes pride in being the returning YLCC conference game champions!

Social Justice

Council

The Social Justice Council consists of passionate leaders who strive to make a difference in our world. Each member shares the desire to help those who face injustices, such as violence, poverty, and discrimination. In all our events, we work to spread awareness about different injustices as well as raise funds to help those in need. For example, we spread awareness through our monthly awareness events. We set up a trifold with information on a topic and we also have trivia questions that students can answer to learn more! For example, one month, we focused on women’s rights. We also host a large fundraiser during Christmas time (OSN) where we collect non-perishable food and clothing items that are then given to various homeless shelters and food banks. This year, STL worked together and collected over 15,000 items!

Spirit

Council

Spirit Council aims to create a fun and exciting atmosphere at STL. We create a sense of belonging that encourages leadership, pride, and ownership by motivating student involvement through spirit-building activities. Spirit Council hosts lunchtime events in the cafeteria, classroom competitions, and sets up exciting booths in the main hall to brighten the lives of our student body. Spirit Council’s goal is to help students challenge themselves, try new things, work as a team and make new friends. If there is an upcoming holiday, Spirit Council will have it covered!
